Spring Hockey
General Information
Join Us for the Spring Hockey Season!
The New Trier Hockey Club is excited to offer a dynamic spring program combining skills development and competitive gameplay. Under the guidance of current New Trier Varsity and Junior Varsity coaches, players will stay on the ice in a challenging yet fun environment.
Depending on registration numbers, we typically field four Varsity teams and three Junior Varsity teams. Teams will compete in 1-2 games per week against other local high school programs from the Scholastic Hockey League (SHL) and the Illinois High School Hockey League (IHSHL).
Additionally, players will participate in weekly skill sessions mostly on Sundays (with a few Saturdays), focusing on body contact, offensive and defensive situational play, and overall strategic development. Sessions will be assigned based on ability and team placement.
Don't miss this opportunity to elevate your game and compete this spring!
Tryouts
Spring Tryout Information
Tryout skates will begin in early March and conclude before New Trier’s spring break. Each player should expect to skate 2-3 times over the two-week period. Specific tryout dates, times, and group assignments will be shared after registration closes.
Coaches from all New Trier regular-season teams will be in attendance to evaluate players and determine team placements. Teams will be organized based on ability and will compete against opponents of similar skill levels.
The total number of teams will depend on registration numbers. Please note that roster spots are not guaranteed for all interested players, nor is placement on a preferred team assured.
Who
Registration is open to all current New Trier High School freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, as well as 8th graders (Midgets or rising second-year Bantams) who plan to attend New Trier in the fall.
When
The spring season officially begins right after New Trier High School spring break and runs up until roughly Memorial Day weekend (finished before final exams).
Fees
Registration Fees Include:
- Tryout Skates: Players will participate in 2-3 tryout sessions.
- Games: Approximately 10 games against teams New Trier competes with during the winter season.
- Team Practices: Two team practices at the start of the spring season in April (dates and times will be communicated after tryouts).
- Skills Sessions: Weekly Sunday skill development sessions led by coaches from all five New Trier teams.
Spring Reversible Jerseys
Spring reversible jerseys must be purchased during registration. At checkout, you'll select your size and whether you're a skater or a goalie. Most skaters wear 2XL, while most goalies wear 4XL. XL (for smaller skaters) and 3XL (for smaller goalies) are also available.
If you're unsure about sizing, visit the Wilmette Bike Shop to try on sample jerseys. Please bring shoulder pads to ensure an accurate fit.
Additional Information
We understand that many players have other commitments during the spring season, and academics, along with participation in an NT spring sport, take priority. Our program is designed to be flexible and accommodate these obligations.
If you're unsure whether your player should participate this spring, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Adam Cheris or Rob Malstrom—they’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
